fever dreams I

Fever Dreams I is a short experimental interactive video shot using a thermal camera. In this interactive video, viewers can disturb the sleeping figure by plucking at the mesh of a digital “sheet”. The video is accompanied by a sparse, uneasy soundtrack of off-key string plucks and hi-hat percussion.

“Low-resolution images can evoke affect more directly, bypassing visual clarity in favor of bodily resonance.”

The Skin of the Film, Laura U. Marks, 2000

The idea for the Fever Dreams series began during a heatwave, when I was also experiencing hot flashes for the first time. As soon as I started experimenting with thermal imaging, I fell in love with the medium’s low resolution and colorful palette.

The visual language of these shorts is stylized, exaggerated, and emotionally charged. The project blends personal experiences of aging and anxiety with broader questions about collective climate unease and embodied perception.

In an era of rising temperatures, the Fever Dreams series asks what objective and subjective truths thermal technologies can help reveal.
